Chelsea Cardano and her dog JJ have been missing since Tuesday morning.
The family of the missing Kelowna woman is conducting a search near Mission Creek on Saturday morning.
Chelsea Cardano, 31, was seen leaving her home on Dougal Road South in Kelowna on Tuesday morning when she took her dog JJ for a walk on Mission Greenway. Her white BMW was found parked at the north end of Pasadena Road, but her dog has not been found since then.
Mission Creek has been running particularly fast and high this past week, as heavy rains have flooded the river, inundating some areas. There are some concerns that Cardano may have been washed away in the river, and rescuers are searching for water.
Police and search and rescue volunteers have been searching the area throughout the week, and on Saturday morning, Cardano’s family is looking for other volunteers to lend a hand.
Volunteers are asked to meet at 10 a.m. in the parking lot of Mission Creek Regional Park on Springfield Road, near the Center for Environmental Education for the Okanagan.
“For the safety of everyone involved, RCMP and COSAR are requesting all volunteers to please sign in and out,” said a post on our help to find Chelsea and JJ Facebook page.
“We ask that if you think you’ve found something worth exploring, please flag a member of RCMP or COSAR. Don’t try and get it yourself! Security is extremely important, we work for RCMP and COSAR.” Don’t want to make it difficult.”
