The undersecretary of DEFENDING on Chile, Ricardo Montero and his British counterpart, James Heappey signed last week the Bilateral Cooperation Plan 2024-2025 which includes cyber defense initiatives, Antarctic cooperation, gender, training and education.
Within the framework of XX Defense Dialogue between the two countries, Undersecretary Montero visited the headquarters of UK Ministry of Defence in London, where after participating in the meeting with his counterpart, he met with the authorities of Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies (RUSI), which is the oldest defense and security research center in the world. On the occasion, he learned about the defense policy making process in the United Kingdom.
It should be noted that days before this visit, the RUSI website published the article The Chile–UK Relationship and Its Implications for Naval Alliances where he says that “the Chilean Navy must change its units sooner rather than later, and it is clear that the British-designed ships will adapt to the needs of the complex Chilean maritime environment, including the southern waters and the Pacific Ocean in which Chile operates”.
Later, he reached the Defense Academy at Shrivenham, where he was received by his director, Major General Andrew Roe. At the meeting, they explored opportunities for cooperation and exchanged views on the joint work system of the two. Armed force. Currently, there is an exchange program where Chilean officials participate in the programs taught by this academy.
In addition, the Chilean undersecretary went to Royal College of Defense Studies where he met the deputy commander SDainton was there with the aim of strengthening relations with this institution that also receives Chilean officials who study in Global Strategy Program.
