China on Tuesday demanded that the US stop “immediately” in Taiwan and warned that it would reserve “the option of action” if the island declared its independence.
Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang today demanded that the U.S. stop “immediately interfering” in Taiwan, adding that Beijing’s aid is an “action option” if the island declares its independence.
“We reserve the option of taking action if there is a circumstance that violates the law against secession of the PRC. China’s determination to defend its sovereignty cannot be underestimated. It is a red line that cannot be crossed,” Qin said in his first public press conference.
The foreign minister, who appeared on the sidelines of the annual session of China’s Legislature (National People’s Congress), stated that the US is “unnecessary in internal affairs.”
“Why don’t you fear the Chinese government in Taiwan and demand that we show respect for the Ukrainian government? Why are you sending weapons to Taiwan and asking us not to send weapons to Russia? If the US wants peace, it must stop using Taiwan to contain and reject China and stop Taiwan’s independence,” he said.
When answering a question about Taiwan, Qin opened a copy of the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China, testifying that the island is “sacred land”.
“Separation in Taiwan is not compatible with peace. It is a threat of secessionism. And if the US does not change its attitude, its ties with China can be seriously damaged,” he said.
“It’s China’s issue, period. It is not that other nations intervene. Some US officials said otherwise, we reject it and we are monitoring it,” he added.
“The determination of the Chinese people to defend their sovereignty cannot be underestimated. It is a red line that cannot be crossed. If the US wants a calm and peaceful Taiwan Strait, it must stop using Taiwan to contain China and reject Taiwan’s independence,” he insisted.
China will “forcefully” fight against the “liberation” of Taiwan and “in favor of the country’s reunification,” it announced last Sunday, announcing the government’s action as outgoing Prime Minister Li Keqiang read during the inauguration of the PNA.
“We must carry out the plan of the Communist Party (CCP) on the issue of Taiwan, that is, fight vigorously against its ‘liberation’ and for the reunification of the motherland,” Li said.
Relations between Beijing and Taipei deteriorated last summer after a visit to the island by then-Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, which raised tensions in the strait unprecedented in years.
Taiwan, with which the North American country does not hold official relations, is one of the main causes of conflict between China and the US, mainly because Washington is the largest supplier of weapons to Taiwan and will be its largest military partner in the event. a war with the Asian giant.
Beijing claimed control of the island after the Kuomintang nationalists retreated there in 1949 after losing a war against the communist army.
China has announced that its defense will increase this year by 7.2% to 1.55 trillion yuan (224,384 million 210,685 million dollars) after the item grew by 7.1% in 2022, according to the ANP report we will review in the next few days.
