César Huerta’s big goal against Australia represented the end of a long drought of almost a decade for the Pumas without any of its players scoring a goal for the Mexican National Team.
Before the ‘Chino’ scoring in the first game of Jaime Lozano, already ratified as definitive technical director, we have to go back to 2015 to find the last goal of an Auriazul player in the tricolor team.
It was on March 31 of that year when Mexico defeated Paraguay at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, with the lone score of Eduardo Herrera, a young Pumas player and at the time the starting ahead of the university team.
But eight years later, César ‘Chino’ Huerta scored on his debut in Tri Mayor to break the curse that has haunted the institution ever since.
“I’M LIVING A DREAM” IN MEXICAN SELECTION: ‘CHINO’ HUERTA
Emotional words from César ‘Chino’ Huerta after scoring the goal that gave Mexico the tie against Australia, because the Pumas footballer had an unforgettable night in his debut with the Tri Mayor.
“I am very happy, I am living a dream and in a week I commented that the difficult thing is not to arrive, but to stay… and consolidate yourself (in the National Team), which is what is important ,” he said in response to a specific question from our analyst and reporter Rubén Rodríguez from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
“Not even in my wildest dreams did I imagine or dream this, I experienced something very beautiful. It’s time to have fun and keep working, I know that’s the way, the work, there are no shortcuts,” he continued.
“To be able to debut and score a goal is an indescribable feeling that happens once in a lifetime and I think I have to keep having fun and working,” concluded César Huerta.
