If you’re celebrating the Fourth of July in a city that has to offer the biggest bang, you can do worse than Cincinnati.

According to WalletHub’s list of “Best and Worst Places for July 4th Celebrations” of 2022, Cincinnati ranks 16th to party this Independence Day.

San Francisco took the No. 1 spot, with Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. at No. 2 and 3, respectively. San Bernardino, California came dead for the last time.

In creating its ranking, the website looked at the top 100 most populous US cities and compared them based on five categories:

  • Fourth of July Celebrations
  • Affordability
  • Fourth of July Attractions & Activities
  • security and access
  • Fourth of July Weather Forecast

Each category then had its own metrics, ranging from the number of 4th of July festivals and the average cost of a hamburger to the chance of rain.

With Ohio’s new consumer fireworks law taking effect, Cincinnati ranked first for the legality of fireworks, as well as first for a proliferation of affordable 4.5+ star restaurants. Queen City finished ninth overall for the duration of the fireworks show.

WalletHub estimates that Americans will spend $1.4 billion on beer and wine and $150 million on hot dogs alone on July 4th of this year. If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy both with live music, fireworks, or a parade, check out these Cincinnati Fourth of July events.
