The Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris) suspended the activities of 31 pharmacies and sales points located in the state of Baja California, where drugs are sold irregularly, probably contaminated with fentanylwhich represents a significant risk to public health.

This action was taken thanks to the complaints of citizens, which created a precedent in the region that receives millions of tourists every year, so it received and analyzes information on various health irregularities.

As part of the ground tasks, 53 verification visits were made to the same number of establishments, the results of which were summarized in the suspension of the activities of 31 pharmacies, as well as the seizure of 4,681 boxes of medicines. In addition, sampling is done to analyze possible counterfeits, adulterations or the presence of fentanyl in the products.

The events take place after two days of meetings between the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, Janet Yellen, and the Mexican economic and financial sector, where joint efforts to combat fentanyl and illegal financing were discussed, as well as to deepen economic relations. between the two countries.
