October 1 (WNN) — Colin Jost says his mother was thrown out by the name of her son Cosmo.
The 39-year-old actor, writer and comedian appeared on Thursday’s episode Late Night With Seth Meyers, where he shared his mother’s reaction to himself and his wife, actress Scarlett Johansson, named their child Cosmo.
When asked how he and Johansson came up with the name, Jost joked that he was assigned it at the hospital.
“I think hospitals are so overwhelmed now that when the kid comes out, they’re like, ‘Ugh, that’s Frank. Go.’ You know, whatever,” he said.
Jost said his family is “always very supportive”, but was confused by the name.
“My mom, I would say, was a little bit affected by it and didn’t understand it,” Starr said. “I don’t know if he thought it was a hippie thing.”
“She’ll call us and say — you know, after three or four days — she’ll be like ‘Cosmo.’ She’ll say, ‘And now, is this the last? Like, did you submit the birth certificate? ?’ And we’re like, ‘Oh yeah. We did that in the hospital,'” he said. “And he’s like, ‘Okay. Interesting.'”
Jost said that his mother suggested the names of Cosimo and Cosmos, a patron saint, as alternatives.
“We don’t need more of the worse options, variants on the Cosmo, but thanks, mom,” he said.
Jost and Johansson married in October 2020 and announced in August that they had welcomed their first child.
“Okay, well, we had a baby,” Jost said on Instagram. “Her name is Cosmo. We love her so much.”
