College Notes: Jackson steps down as head coach of Union College Women’s College

Abigail Jackson has stepped down as head coach of Union College’s women’s lacrosse team, the college announced Tuesday.

According to Union College Athletic Director Jim McLaughlin, Jackson has accepted the position of Athletes Unlimited Women’s Professional Lacrosse Athletic Director Lacrosse.

“I would like to thank Jim McLaughlin and the entire Athletics Department for the opportunity to be part of the Union community,” Jackson said in a press release. “The time here has provided me with many opportunities to learn, but most importantly, opportunities to grow. I will always appreciate the relationship I have built here. “

Jackson was the head coach for 11 seasons. She made 80-73 records. 80 victories link her for the first time in history with Linda Bevelander, who coached the Dutch women from 1997 to 2004. Under Jackson, Union made one All-American, nine All-Region qualifiers and 51 Universal Liberty League medalists. She led the team to one of the best seasons in program history in 2015, when Union set a 13-4 record and won regular season and Liberty League titles to secure an NCAA seat.

“As a department, we thank Abi for her leadership and the time she has put into her teams, our college and the community as a whole over the past 11 years,” McLaughlin said. “Her work on and off the field has made our women’s lacrosse program and the wider community a better place. We will miss her great contributions to the College and look forward to her future success and success in her next role. ”

In the near future, the college will search for a new coach.

MEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
RPI’s Marshall wins ECAC Hockey awards
The league announced on Monday that RPI’s Linden Marshall has been named MAC Goalkeeper of the Week by ECAC Hockey Magazine.
Marshall, a graduate student from Victoria, British Columbia, received this award for the third time in his departure and for the first time this season. He stopped 28 shots in the RPI’s only game of the week, helping the engineers win a 2-1 victory over Vermont on Saturday.
In four starts this year, Marshall is 2-1-1 with 1.95 goals versus average and 0.915 percent saves.
RPI meets rival Union this weekend in a series of home and home matches, with play on Friday at Messa Rink in Schenectady and Saturday at Houston Field House in Troy.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
RPI’s Rampado Claims Awards
RPI women’s ice hockey player Amanda Rampado has been named MAC Goalkeeper of the Week by ECAC Hockey for the second time this season, the league announced on Monday.
Rampado, a native of Stony Creek, Ontario, led the RPI to a pair of victories over opponents of Hockey East over the weekend, making 24 stops in a 4-2 win over Boston University and then making 42 saves on a 2-0 win over None. 9 Providence for her second stop of the month.
In eight games this season, Rampado is 4-4-0, with 1.87 goals against average and 0.944 shooting percent.

Union’s Friedman Receives Rookie Award
On Monday, the league announced that after scoring a goal and adding an assist to the winning goal, Union College footballer Sam Friedman received her second Rookie of the Week award in the Liberty League.
Friedman was instrumental in both of Union’s goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Clarkson. The freshman shared the lead with four goals this season and added two assists.
Friedman’s Rookie of the Week honor is her second of the season since she was previously honored on September 27th.

MEN’S COLLEGE T-SHIRT
RPI’s Rodriguez Receives Award
RPI first-year midfielder Julio Rodriguez was named Liberty League Men’s Rookie of the Week after scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 RPI victory over Ithaca on Saturday, bringing the engineers to first place in the Liberty League standings with two games to play. In 51 minutes of the match with the Bombers, Rodriguez made three hits, struck in the 39th minute.

Shohari Gra Fanyani wins NAC award
SUNY Poly’s Noah Fagnani, a Schoharie High alumnus, has been named North Atlantic Conference Football Player of the Week for Men, the league announced on Monday. Fagnani scored three of the Wildcats’ five goals in the conference finals at NVU-Johnson, helping his team finish 5-0 in the NAC West game and secure first place in the NAC Championship.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Awards for duo SUNY Cobleskill
SUNY Cobleskill volleyball players Mackenzie Larson and Alexis Miranda have been named North Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday.
Larson amassed 27 kills and 50 digs in three matches over the course of the week, while SUNY Cobleskill went 2-1 with victories over Castleton and SUNY Polytechnic and a loss to SUNY Delhi.
Meanwhile, Miranda had 31 kills, 42 service points and 14 blocks during her three Battle Tigers matches.

COLLEGE HOCKEY FIELDS
Billert from RSK named the best defender
ALBANY – Senior field hockey player from Russell Sage College Ashley Billert has been named Defensive Player of the Week at the Empire 8 Conference, announced at the conference on Monday.
Billert, a Bennington, Vermont native, scored Saturday’s 3-2 winning goal over Keucah, as well as a total of four defensive saves.

Freedom League honors Michaels Skidmore
Skidmore eldest Madeleine Michaels led the 3-0 Defense Week on her way to the Liberty League Defender of the Week title.
The Thoroughbreds registered Freedom League lockouts against Ithaca (3-0) and Union (3-0).
Michaels scored her first career goal on Sunday against the Bombers.

MEN’S GOLF COLLEGE
RPI’s Harrigan praised
Senior RPI player Joey Harrigan was named Liberty League Men’s Golfer of the Week on Monday after finishing 11th in the Golfweek Division III Invitational, which featured 24 schools and 120 competitors.
Harrigan finished three rounds 1: 214 with rounds 72, 69 and 73. His second round with 2 fewer included an eagle and four birds.
