Colo Colo forgets the title

Colo Colo had the mission to get the three points in any case this Thursday in the upcoming game against Deportes Copiapó, which corresponds to the 16th matchday, but he has not managed it and is starting to forget the national championship title. In fact, only a stopped ball allowed the Albos to keep a point in the Monumental.

The León de Atacama was on the verge of a surprise right from the start of the duel. At 1 minute Fernando de Paul had to save the first shot. Then, in the 4th minute, a former Universidad de Chile noticed: Isaac Díaz headed the ball and the ball went past the goal. Yes, the Cacique reacted: in the 15th minute César Fuentes finished, the ball hit the crossbar and immediately afterwards Matías Moya saved the rebound, but goalkeeper Espinoza parried perfectly.

Then it was the Cacique who had the best chance. In the 26th minute, Leandro Benegas was alone in front of the opponent’s goal, but his cross shot went well over the goal. In the 45th minute, Leonardo Gil created another chance from the same sector, but the move was declared invalid due to an advanced position.

The approach was similar in the supplement, although Popular lacked clarity in the final third of the field. At some point there were ineffective crosses that no attacker could exploit. The visitor waited and expected a counterattack, and that’s exactly what happened at the beginning of the scoring: in the 75th minute, Reynero ordered a quick attack, crossed and Quinteros appeared alone at dawn to score with a header.

The trend continued, but Colo Colo was at least able to equalize in the only way possible. In the 85th minute, Leonardo Gil had a free kick at the entrance to the penalty area and scored a great goal that gave him some rest. Two minutes later, Jhordy Thompson won after a counterattack led by Damián Pizarro. The two punished men, who returned today after their recent problems, wanted to please their trainer.

In the end, the scoreboard didn’t move despite seven minutes of added time. Colo Colo remains in third place with 36 points, 10 points behind Cobresal, with a game less. In any case, everything indicates that it will be more than difficult for the Cacique to become champions this season.
