Colombia and the US reaffirm the strategic alliance for conservation

The Colombian ambassador to the United States, Luis Gilberto Murillo, and the deputy undersecretary for Andean Affairs of the Department of State, Kevin Sullivan, highlighted the work done by the two countries for the protection of nature and sustainable development in the regions. from Colombia, reports the Colombian embassy in Washington.

On the occasion of 30 years of a law for the conservation of the environment and the protection of renewable natural resources, the Embassy of Colombia in the United States gathered more than 50 experts to reflect on the progress and challenge of combating climate change and deforestation from a bilateral approach.

During the Climate and Environmental Diplomacy forum within the framework of Colombia-United States relations, the Colombian ambassador emphasized his country’s efforts to promote green diplomacy and environmental sustainability.

“The last 30 years have allowed us to make great progress in protecting the environment and now the government of Petro-Márquez intends to build the pillars that will pave the way for territorial planning around water and environmental justice,” he said.

“The work we have done with the United States on the environment is and will continue to be key to advancing this new fair and equitable approach to combating climate change,” he added.

For his part, Sullivan highlighted the deep commitment shared by President Gustavo Petro and Joe Biden to mitigate the effects of climate change and work together to preserve biodiversity in Colombia as one of the axes of bilateral relations, where He emphasized that “it is in very good condition.”

The event, in which representatives of multilateral banks also participated, highlighted key initiatives to address deforestation and loss of biodiversity, as well as financing mechanisms for the transition to sustainable economies.
