Community of Madrid commits to mental health and addiction plan and will employ 370 specialists

The Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid has decided to make a strong commitment to improving the mental health conditions of the people of Madrid. It is an initiative with an investment of more than 43 million euros and will mean expanding the staff of specialists in the fields of psychiatry, clinical psychology, mental health nursing or occupational therapy.

The Minister of Health, Enrique Ruiz-Escudero, has announced the approval of the Community Strategic Plan 2022/2024 for Mental Health and Addictions. This program of the Regional Executive focuses on lines of work focused on different profiles of the most specific patients. as commented by Vice President and Minister of Education and Universities, Enrique OssorioIn a press conference “to guarantee its success and its full implementation by 2024”, the Ministry of Health’s Regional Office for Mental Health and Addictions has worked with the various sectors involved.

Newsroom members are groups and associations of over a hundred professionals, users and families. Also those responsible for the psychiatric and mental health services of the hospitals of the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS), as well as scientific societies, as well as professional colleges and associations. To broaden the focus of the Mental Health and Addictions plan, we have collaborated with professionals from the Ministry of Family, Youth and Social Policy. The Mental Health and Addictions Scheme is already in operation. In fact, in this case assistance continues at three levels of care: Summa 112, primary care and in public hospitals. This makes the Community of Madrid the only region in Spain that provides mental health, clinical psychologists in its emergency and emergency service.

Within the framework of this plan, a new unit within the Mental Health Network began operating this summer. The latter is dedicated to addictive behavioral disorders and is located in the Gregorio Marañón Public Hospital., In addition, four new day hospitals for children and adolescents are operating, with 54 professionals from psychiatry, clinical psychology, nursing and occupational therapy.

The new resources are located at the Getafe Public Hospital and the La Paz Public University Hospital (Madrid), consolidating the resources created with this action with the Mental Health Response Plan in the Post COVID-19 Crisis. Along with these hospitals two more have been built in the San Carlos Clinical Hospital. One of them is specialized for children and the other for the care of adolescents. In addition to four new day hospitals, a new Brief Hospitalization Unit for adolescents will also be introduced at the clinic.

Renewal of emergencies “against the current”

In the context of health attacks in the Community of Madrid, the Governing Council of CAM has approved an investment for a comprehensive renovation of the Emergency Service of La Princesa Public Hospital.
