A new unrest was observed among the formal merchants in the central area of Bucaramanga. The non-compliance is due to the complete closure of 37th Street between 9th and 11th Streets. and that on 36th Street, between Carreras 11 and 12.
It is recalled that a few days ago the Bucaramanga Mayor’s Office planned new work fronts, which led to the closure of the aforementioned streets and immediately caused discontent among citizens, including formal merchants.
According to business owners in the area, “these executions were terribly planned.” Initially, the municipality stated that the allotted time for these works was six months; That means, on paper, the deadline was met last June. That is why we are asking for the work to be accelerated because we cannot tolerate any further economic damage,” said Marina González, one of the local merchants.
The merchant Luis Gómez is of the same opinion, adding: “These eternal works have frightened our customers and caused inconvenience and inconvenience to those who pass through these streets.”
The interventions are carried out as part of the works of the Plan for the Revitalization of the Public Space of the Center of Bucaramanga, PREP, currently carried out by the Municipality within the framework of the Plazoleta Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento and Parque García Rovira projects.
Although the municipality claims that “the new closures will ensure the progress of the works in these two emblematic spaces of the center”, the business owners assure that the fair season has been affected; “The worst thing is that the same thing will happen on Children’s Day and Christmas. “This is all a catastrophe,” said Serafín González, one of those affected by these closures.
The Minister of Infrastructure, Iván Vargas, announced that the reconstruction work in these sectors will be completed next November. In addition, he replied that the inaugurations of these projects will probably take place on December 22, 2023, the 401st anniversary of the Bucaramanga Foundation.
It should be noted that demolition work on platforms and asphalt surfaces is being carried out in this part of the Bucaramanga Center; replacement of sewage networks; Reconstruction of power and communications networks; stormwater network arrangements; Constructions of sardines, bollards, green spaces, intersections and ends; in addition to restoring road and vehicle routes.
