The Portuguese City Council has begun work on the construction of two urban elevators that will serve to improve access between Julio Gutiérrez Lumbreras Street and Urdibai Square. The Portuguese Town Hall has invested almost half a million euros in the execution of this project, which will make Plaza Urdibai and its surrounding areas a better access point. The work will last for six months, so if the deadline is met, these lifts will start operating in the early stages of this coming summer.
When designing these two urban elevators, two options were opened to locate the elevators. On the one hand, they could walk along the stairs that give access, for example, to the municipal Euskaltegi, while the other option was to place them by the La Florida group. In the end, the technicians found it more feasible to install them from around the La Florida group, since to locate them on the stairs that give access to the Euskaltegi, it was necessary to break the slabs of the square and a series There was a need for the removal of the parking lot. With the lift’s location at Grupo La Florida, the lift will help bridge a 14 meter high drop.
The first urban elevator will connect Julio Gutiérrez Lumbreras Street and Grupo La Florida, while the second elevator will connect Grupo La Florida and Plaza Urdibai at the residence height, providing access to ramps that connect to this intersection. The region of Los Llanos. “In this way, with these two elevators we not only connect Julio Gutiérrez Lumbreras Street and Grupo La Florida to Plaza Urdibai, but we also improve the accessibility of other areas of the villa along this square”, Mayor of Jarillero, Michael Towers explains.
The works that began barely a month ago are in their early stages, the least visible of them all. And it is that the lift is going to be built in a very rocky area, so the first phase of work is to crush all that rock, to be able to build the cabin in such a way that the first of two urban lifts.
In parallel with the construction of these two lifts, the existing flights of stairs at this point in the Noble Villa will also be improved. In this sense, the new blocks of stairs will draw a lower slope than the current ones, with a larger footprint, and will have a series of railings that will serve so that jarilleros going up or down these stairs can grip and walk with more comfort. from and safe.
