How did the Copa Sudamericana play?
The group stage is played by the 12 qualifiers from Argentina and Brazil, plus the 16 that come from the preliminary stage plus the four teams from Stage 3 of the Copa Libertadores.. They are divided into eight groups, where they all play against each other on their way around. Each team plays six games and advances to the first two in the round robin.
Then there are the 16th round games, the second in each group, the third in the Copa Libertadores. Then the winners of each group meet in a round-robin game. Then come the quarters and semifinals and they will play the finals in the Centenario de Montevideo.
