Create Vaccine Testing Lab in Hyderabad
Significantly, Telangana Industries Minister KT Rama Rao recently urged Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan to set up a Vaccine Testing and Certification Laboratory and Government Medical Store Depot in Hyderabad. In a letter to the Union Health Minister, Rama Rao demanded the establishment of a vaccine testing and certification laboratory on the lines of the Central Pharmaceutical Laboratory in Kasauli.
Produce over 6 billion doses every year
He said that Hyderabad is known as the ‘Vaccine Capital of the World’ and produces more than six billion doses every year, which contributes one-third to the global vaccine production. He wrote in the letter that at present, vaccines manufactured in Hyderabad are being sent to the Central Pharmaceutical Laboratory at Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh for testing and certification.
‘ICMR is given free required land’
Rao also mentioned that the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) is setting up the country’s largest national animal resource facility for biomedical research in Gnome Valley, Hyderabad. He said, “For the project, the state government has given necessary land to ICMR free of cost for setting up this facility.”
