COVID-19: 1,937 new cases were reported

The Ministry of Health reports that nationally new confirmed cases decreased by 20.9% in the past week, while they decreased by 36.6% in the past 14 days. Further, there has been a decrease in cases in the last seven and fourteen days in all regions.

In case reports this Saturday, January 28, 1,937 new cases of COVID-19 have been registered across the country, with 13,450 examinations, PCR and antigen tests, with a positivity rate of 9.49% in the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate in the metropolitan area is 8.92%.

Of the 1,937 new cases, 66% are diagnosed by antigen tests, 29% result from active case finding (BAC) and 9% of those notified are asymptomatic. For the metropolitan area, this is 62% by antigen, 34% by BAC, and 6% of reported cases are asymptomatic.

According to sampling, the areas with the most positivity in the past week are Antofagasta, O’Higgins, Coquimbo and Ñuble.

Meanwhile, the Atacama region has the highest current incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Ñuble, Los Ríos and Maule.

As of today’s report, of the 1,937 new cases of COVID-19, 1,339 correspond to symptomatic people and 134 are asymptomatic. In addition, 464 positive PCR tests were recorded which were not notified.

With regard to deaths, as per the information provided by the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS), in the last 24 hours, 19 deaths were recorded due to causes linked to COVID-19. The total death toll in the country has gone up to 63,764.

As of yesterday, 109 people were hospitalized in intensive care units, 76 of them with mechanical ventilation support. With respect to the Integrated Health Network, a total of 335 critical beds are available for patients, irrespective of the region they are located in.

With regard to laboratory network and diagnostic capacity, the results of 13,450 PCR tests and antigen tests were reported yesterday, reaching a total of 48,100,468 analyzes across the country to date. Positivity in the last 24 hours is 9.49% at the country level and 8.92% in the metropolitan area.
