COVID-19: 6,009 new cases surfaced

The Ministry of Health reports that nationally confirmed new cases show a variation of 18% over the past week, while over the past 14 days the variation is 19%. Meanwhile, six regions have reduced their cases in the last seven days and five in the last two weeks.

In case reports this Thursday, December 29, 6,009 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported across the country in the last 24 hours, with 25,920 examinations, PCR and antigen tests, with a positivity rate of 20.16%. The daily positivity rate in the metropolitan area is 22.45%.

Of the 6,009 new cases, 55% are diagnosed by antigen tests, 38% result from active case finding (BAC) and 14% of those notified are asymptomatic. For the metropolitan area, this is 46% by antigen, 40% by BAC, and 11% of reported cases are asymptomatic.

According to sampling, the areas with the highest positivity rate last week are Arica and Parinacota, Tarapacá, Antofagasta and O’Higgins.

Meanwhile, the Arica and Parinacota regions have the highest current incidence rates per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Tarapacá, Atacama and Antofagasta.

As of today’s report, of the 6,009 new cases of COVID-19, 3,569 are symptomatic and 586 are asymptomatic. In addition, 1,854 positive PCR tests were recorded which were not notified.

The total number of people infected with Kovid-19 in the country has reached 5,026,534. Of this total, 12,531 patients are active, according to the criteria of early stage, given a separation of 5 days from the onset of symptoms or testing. The number of cured cases is 4,934,343.

With regard to deaths, as per the information provided by the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS), in the last 24 hours, 51 deaths were recorded due to causes linked to COVID-19. The total death toll in the country has gone up to 63,127.

As of yesterday, 108 people were hospitalized in intensive care units, 80 of them with mechanical ventilation support. With respect to the Integrated Health Network, a total of 359 critical beds are available for patients, irrespective of the region they are located in.

With respect to laboratory network and diagnostic capacity, results of 25,920 PCR tests and antigen tests were reported yesterday, taking the total to 47,648,427 analyzed across the country till date. Positivity in the last 24 hours is 20.16% at the country level and 22.45% in the metropolitan area.

With regard to health housing, we have 11 housing facilities with a total of 611 beds. The actual occupancy at the national level is 34%, with a total of 275 beds available for use.
