COVID-19 cases in Splatsyn tripled in less than a week
Fifteen test positive, 49 in self-isolation during the current COVID-19 outbreak
A COVID-19 outbreak is currently affecting the Splatsin community.
On Thursday, January 20, Kukpi7 (chief) Doug Thomas announced that there are currently 15 people who tested positive and 46 are in self-isolation in the community.
“Cases in our community have tripled in less than a week, and the number of individuals in self-isolation has doubled,” Thomas said.
Splatsin is advising community members to stay home until Tuesday, January 25.
“According to 97 percent of doctors, vaccination is still one of the most effective tools to combat the spread of these viruses and reduce their severity,” Thomas said. “New strains are increasingly airborne, which is a good reason to limit physical contact. The Enderby region has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the province, making it difficult to proceed.
In response to the outbreak, Splatsyn closed its offices for five days starting on January 20.
Community members attending Monday’s funeral are asked to monitor symptoms closely and to contact Splatsyn Health Services if they feel ill.
