The Gray Bruce Health Unit says a COVID-19 outbreak at Owen Sound Hospital is over.

Public Health announced the outbreak at Unit 6-2, Medicine Unit, on January 3, when three asymptomatic patients tested positive for the virus.
The outbreak was announced on January 17.
Gary Sims, president and CEO of Gray Bruce Health Services, said all three patients were hospitalized for other health issues and not COVID-19.
“Patients and staff have been tested in the last 14 days and there has been no further transmission from this outbreak,” he said.
Gray-Bruce now has 11 declared outbreaks, including all three Gray County-run long-term care homes – Lee Manor in Owen Sound, Gray Gables in Markdale and Rockwood Terrace in Durham.
Other outbreaks are at Pinecrest Manor in Lucknow, Erinrung Retirement and Nursing Home in Thornbury, McEveen Lodge in Hanover, R-Villa Retirement Living in Ripley, Parkview Manor in Chesley, Mapleview Long-Term Care Home in Owen Sound, Maple Court Villa. Walkerton and Summit Place in Owen Sound.
On Monday, 50 new cases of the pandemic virus were reported in Grey-Bruce. But since testing has been limited, the virus spread in the community is less than the number of confirmed cases, the health unit says.
New PCR testing requirements allow symptomatic testing of high-risk people and those working in high-risk settings. The health unit says PCR testing is generally not recommended for asymptomatic contacts.
The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Grey-Bruce so far is 5,012, of which 4,692 have been resolved.

Public Health says the two counties have 288 known active cases of the virus.
The number of Grey-Bruce residents at the hospital with one case of COVID-19 remains 17, while 27 Grey-Bruce residents have died of the virus since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
The health unit says 334,605 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been given so far in Grey-Bruce, including 12,977 in the last week alone.

Public Health has added more appointments for this week’s COVID-19 vaccination clinics and says walk-ins are now welcome.
According to a news release, the health unit is still advising people to book appointments to fill their pockets as the waiting time may increase if the walk-in numbers are high.
The Hockey Hub Vaccination Clinic at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Center in Owen Sound is operating each week this week. The clinic operates daily from 11 am to 7 pm on Wednesdays, on Thursdays from 10 am to 7 pm and on Fridays from 10 am to 6 pm.
Appointments have been added for the clinic at Durham Community Centre, which operates from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as the clinic at Wirton Community Center, which is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Individuals over the age of 18 can schedule their booster dose through Ontario’s booking portal at covid19.ontariohealth.ca.
