France has become the latest European country to remove the United States from the safe travel list, and it is also the most important tourist destination. This follows the European Union’s recommendations after the surge in Covid in the United States.
A decree issued by the French government on Thursday reduced the United States and Israel from the country’s “green” list to “orange”, effectively prohibiting unvaccinated tourists from traveling to France for non-essential travel.
According to French regulations, unvaccinated travelers from any country will still be allowed to enter, provided they have the necessary reasons for travel, but they need to undergo a negative Covid-19 test before traveling and must be isolated after arrival7 sky.
France’s move follows restrictions on American travelers from several other European destinations. Earlier this week, Spain changed its entry policy for immigrants from the United States, requiring them to hold a certificate of double vaccination.
Economies hit by the epidemic
Denmark and the Netherlands have also recently updated their restrictions, requiring U.S. travelers to provide proof of vaccination. At the same time, Sweden has banned all entry into the United States, regardless of vaccination status.
Italy began last week to require all tourists, including those from the United States, to show a certificate of PCR or Covid antigen testing performed within 72 hours of travel, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or not.
The new measures follow a non-binding recommendation made by the European Union to its member states earlier this month to limit the number of people entering the United States following the rise in the number of Covid-19 infections in the United States in July and August.
Many European tourist destinations reopened their borders to Americans earlier in the summer to attract much-needed travel funds to boost the economy hit by the new crown virus.
As the Delta variant of Covid spreads across the United States, some countries, including Germany, have begun to restrict contact with Americans before EU recommendations. Other countries, such as Greece, insist that they will remain open regardless of the vaccination status of travelers.
