Most of the Australian Cupra Leon range – VZ, VZe and VZx – will be fielded in good numbers in July 2022, only to be further delayed in base V.

Like its bigger brother, the Formentor midsize SUV, all Leon models for Australia use a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine in various states – with the exception of the plug-in hybrid, which mixes a 1.4-liter turbo. Petrol with 85kW electric motor.

The slightly delayed Leon V model is priced at $43,990 before on-road costs and is expected to receive a national driveway price closer to the version’s arrival between July and September 2022.

Equipment is generous, however, including 18-inch alloy wheels (with space-saver spares), full LED headlights, LED taillights, privacy glass, a spoiler, and metallic paint.

Inside, the Leon V includes cloth sports bucket seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and satellite navigation. A black headliner, ambient lighting, and a leather steering wheel with paddle shifters are all standard, as are aluminum pedals and three-zone climate control.

A sunroof costs $1800, and two premium colors (Wish Red and Graphene Grey) are $475.

The move up to the mid-level Leon VZ – which arrives with the first batch of Australian cars in July – costs $8,600, at $52,590 ($56,990 driveway), but has tweaked engine output to 180kW/s to match its two cousins. Upgrades to 370Nm: Golf GTI, and Skoda Octavia RS.

One minor change found is that Beats Stereo isn’t available for plug-in hybrids, so the major option is the Leather-only package ($2050) with leather, heated front seats, driver’s power adjustment and memory, and copper dash stitching .
