Dad allegedly ‘murdered by wife’ in Bali while ex on phone

An Indonesian woman has been arrested in Bali on suspicion of killing her British husband while he was on the phone with his ex.

A British man has been allegedly murdered in Bali by his Indonesian girlfriend – while he was on a video call with his family in the UK.

Matt Harper, 48, is suspected of being stabbed in a Southeast Asian tourist destination by Amy Pakpahan before dying of her injuries.

The father of two children is understood to have returned home with his stepdaughter and his ex-wife. Sun Report.

According to friends, Mr. Harper, who worked for the luxury hotel firm Karma, was in a relationship with Ms. Pakpahan since last July.

Ms. Pakpahan, who is 40 and born in Indonesia but has US citizenship from a previous marriage, reportedly told police that Mr. Harper killed herself.

She showed investigators a video of her dying on the floor of her Bali home after her suspected attack on Thursday

Ms Pakpahan filmed the footage herself from outside the property, claiming that Matt had locked the doors and intentionally harmed himself.

She cries in the clip: “I don’t know what happened. I don’t know, I don’t know.”

Friends say they were boyfriend and girlfriend, but it looked like they married in October with a “Mr and Mrs Harper” Facebook picture.

And in a bizarre video on social media, she thanks friends and family for their “support” following news of her death.

She tells the camera: “Naturally I am sad. And if you guys don’t listen to me, it’s not because I don’t want to respond, I need time to process things.

“Please don’t believe anything until there is a statement from the police department.”

However, the Bali police arrested him on the charge of murder.

‘Best Dad’

Mr. Harper’s ex-girlfriend in Bali, Elin Efashion reveals Sun: “I was with him before I met Amy. He was the perfect gentleman, caring and lovely man. He was the love of my life. I can’t believe he’s gone.”

“He was the best father to his two girls and stepdaughter and was loved by many friends in the UK and Bali. May he rest in peace.”

Other friends claimed they feared for Mr Harper’s safety in the weeks following his death.

He described Ms. Pakpahan as a “psycho” girlfriend who has been accused of being a serial scammer on Bali Facebook groups who duped foreigners for thousands of dollars.

Mr Harper is understood to have arrived in Bali from Gloucester in southwest England in February 2020. He got a job at a hotel group and often shared videos and photos of his “dream” life on the Indonesian island on social media.

A keen chef, he regularly cooks dishes for friends in Bali and even hosted a “Come Dine With Me” event at a restaurant there last year.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said last night: “We are in contact with Indonesian police regarding the death of a British man in Bali, and are supporting the family at this difficult time.”
