DANVILE – A 31-year-old man was in county jail after being arrested Monday on suspicion of multiple charges in relation to a hit-and-run collision during a traffic stop that injured a police officer.
A city spokesman said the officer tried to stop a black Ford Focus on Diablo Road and Ackerman Drive for speeding.
The driver reportedly tried to run away before using Ford twice to kill the officer on his motorcycle, managing to do so on Diablo Road and Almatos Drive half a mile away. The spokesman said the officer managed to escape with only minor injuries.
Other officers responded and began a search for the ford before finding it in unincorporated San Ramon within Bollinger Canyon and Rocky Ridge Roads within the Las Trampas Wilderness Regional Preserve.
The driver, identified as a Danville resident, was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of felony assault, felony and hit-and-run by a police officer. According to a check of records on Monday night, he was being booked into the Martinez County Jail. Neither the bail nor the date of the arrest hearing was immediately available.
A search was on for hit-and-run drivers in separate road-rage clashes in which an Oakland Hills motorist was injured Sunday night and an Alameda County Sheriff’s deputy in East Oakland on Monday morning Was.
