Dave Grohl says he overheard Kurt Cobain talking about getting him out of nirvana

Dave Grohl told the Vulture in an interview published on Tuesday, Nirvana Frontman Kurt Cobain was considering replacing him as the band’s drummer.

This theme came up when Vulture’s Craig Jenkins asked Grohl about the play. journalist Michael Azerrad claimed that during the American “In Utero” tour, Cobain shouted in his hotel room about Grohl’s “firing”.

The Foo Fighters frontman said he had a different “version” of the story.

According to Grohl, he was seated several rows in front of the band’s co-founders, Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, who were flying to begin producing their “In Utero” tour when he overheard a conversation between them.

“I heard Kurt say, ‘I think we need a more basic drummer like Dan Peters,’ whom they almost hired,” Grohl said. “I was very upset because I thought it was okay.”

Peters was briefly at Nirvana before Grohl, but Grohl ended up getting a gig – Peters suggested he had been nudged in Grohl’s favor.

However, it looks like the future Foo Fighter didn’t want to be a bawdy monkey and he ran into his bandmates.

“I spoke to Christ and said, ‘Is this really what you guys want to do? Because if that’s what you want, maybe just let me know and we can fix it, ”Grohl continued. “I ended up talking to Kurt about it and he said, ‘No. This is not what we want to do. ” I just thought, “Guys, it’s up to you which drummer you really want, and they decided I should stay.”

Grohl described that he was a little more upset about the conversation in the 2011 biography “It’s a Challenge: The Life and Times of Dave Grohl,” according to NME.

Biographer Paul Brannigan quotes Grohl as saying that Cobain “kind of fucked up” during the flight, and Grohl heard “he talked about what a shitty drummer I was.”

Grohl was obviously so annoyed at hearing this that when the plane touched down, he told their tour manager that he was gone. Grohl was reportedly reassured by the tour manager and decided to stay.

Grohl also called Novoselic and Cobain “strange” when he first met them.

“They were both a mystery to me,” Grohl told British music magazine Rhythm in 1993. “I never imagined myself fitting into this picture.”
