A very special day for all Romantico Viajero fans. And it is that today, Wednesday 24 May, we are celebrating as our beloved club celebrates its 96th anniversary.
It was a day like today, but in 1927 when in a meeting between the leaders of the University Federation, the Board of Internships FC and Club Nautico, the final merger between the institutions and the name change to Club Universitario de Deportes was resolved.
This is how the House of Studies team took on the challenge of leaving only the university tournament, in order to compete in the Central Football League of Santiago. Subsequently, this date was recorded in the official records of the National Association of Professional Football (ANFP).
More than nine decades with the U on our chest, turning us into the place where so many important players for Chile were born and, at the same time, high-level teams that know how to represent the blue shirt with pride and passion.
In these 96 years our record stands for the many sporting achievements achieved in our history: 18 first division titles, 5 Copa Chile, 1 Super Cup and the 2011 Copa Sudamericana (achieved undefeated).
It has been a journey full of joys, sorrows, victories, failures and unforgettable moments. Episode that not only created our identity, but also turned us into a benchmark institution for the development of Chilean sport and one of the most important clubs in the continent.
The cornerstone of our valuable history is also the millions of blue fans, who today celebrate the New Year of Life with the unconditional passion that has characterized them for decades.
Today, as we celebrate a new anniversary, we look back and reflect on all the events that have marked the history of Romantic Traveller, in the hope that we will allow this beautiful club to grow bigger and bigger.
