Debt-ridden new US Congressman denied apartment in campaign

Washington, Dec 8 Democrat Maxwell Alejandro Frost, the first member of so-called Generation Z and the first Afro-Cuban elected to the United States Congress, says his application to rent an apartment in Washington was rejected because he had bad credit. Is.

Frost himself said in a message on his Twitter account that his credit is “really bad” because he took on too much debt during his year-and-a-half campaign to represent a Florida district in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In her message, Frost said she told the landlord of the apartment that she had poor credit and they told her everything would be fine.

But then her application was denied, and Frost lost not only the apartment but also the application fee.

Frost, born January 17, 1997, is the first legislator to come from a demographic born between the second half of the 1990s and the first half of the 2010s, the successor to Millennials and the predecessor to Generation Alpha.

On her own financial difficulties, Frost, who will take office in the House next January, shared the experience of Democrat Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, 33, who said after her 2018 congressional election that she couldn’t afford an apartment in Washington.

Frost is the son of a Puerto Rican mother and Haitian father of Lebanese descent, and was adopted as a young boy by a Cuban teacher brought to the United States on “freedom flights”. His adoptive father is a musician from Kansas.

The youth activist, who promotes gun control among other causes, supported the 2012 presidential campaign of Barack Obama and later worked on the campaigns of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Maxwell Alejandro Frost is part of the record number of 47 Latinos who will make up the Congress of the 118th House of Representatives, set to be established next January.

This minority had historic achievements in the House of Representatives, including being the first Latinas to represent Colorado, Illinois, and Oregon in Congress.
