English drummer Rick Allen speaks to the media for the first time since being attacked outside his Fort Lauderdale hotel Last March in Florida, USA. The member of the rock band Def Leppard recounted his experience with aggression in an interview with the program Good Morning America.
On March 13, a day after the band’s performance at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, drummer Rick Allen left a hotel to take a smoke break, “I heard some footsteps and then I saw some kind of black glow. And the next thing I knew, he was on the ground,” Allen said. He was knocked down by a 19-year-old boy.
the musician said landed on my back then continued and hit my head on the pavement, Apparently, his assailant was behind a pillar in the same hotel. It is not known why he attacked Allen in the first place, but he also injured a woman who was trying to help the drummer and fled to another hotel where he broke several windows. The subject was taken into custody by witnesses and turned over to the police.
Allen said he believed the shooter didn’t know who he was and just didn’t see him as a threat. The drummer lost an arm due to a traffic accident in 1984., Similarly, the musician assured that the trauma of the accident that happened nearly 40 years ago had prepared him for the trauma of the recent attack.
“Immediately, I went to that site feeling grateful that i have a wonderful wife and family, I just started thanking a higher power for the fact that I’m still here,” the drummer said of the days following the attack. The interview was also attended by the musician’s wife, Lauren Monroe.
“My heart completely sank into me. I know the journey of trauma. Everything stopped at our house and focused on that,” he said. Lauren, with whom Rick created a foundation called Raven Drums to help trauma survivors, Especially veterans and first responders.
The musical group performed on 22 May at the Bramall Lane Stadium in Sheffield, England, where the band was born, with Allen returning to the stage. Def Leppard will now continue his world tour in several countries in Europe Including Germany, Hungary and Poland.
