DeLucia keep Mississippi rolling in 5-1 CWS win over Auburn

OMAHA, Neb. ( Associated Press) — Dylan DeLucia allowed a run and scored 10 runs in 7 2/3 innings as Mississippi continued her postseason roll with a 5-1 win over Auburn in their College World Series opener Saturday night. kept.

DeLucia was mostly dominated by an Auburn team that averaged just 11 runs per game in the NCAA Tournament, limiting the Tigers to four hits without a walk before giving way to Josh Mallitz.

Mississippi (38-22) will play a second straight Southeastern Conference West rival in Arkansas on Monday. The Razorbacks beat Stanford 17-2 on Saturday. Auburn (42-21) will face Stanford in the elimination game.

After being the last major team selected for the NCAA Tournament, the Rebels won three straight regionals and closed out Southern Mississippi twice in the Super Regionals.

The Rebels scored four of their five runs against Auburn, with two dismissals. Kemp Alderman scored two runs with a base hit from Joseph Gonzalez (7-4) in the first innings, Kevin Graham in the third and TJ McCants in a single in the sixth.

It was enough offense for DeLucia (7-2), who mixed a quick slider with a fast ball that was still touching the mid-90s in a late innings on a hot, humid night. Brody Moore retired 14 in a row before singing from the right side with two outs in the fifth for Auburn’s first hit.

The Tigers ended Mississippi’s 26-innings shutout streak in seventh. Garrett Farquhar, who grabbed second base in the fourth inning for an ailing Cole Foster, doubled the lead and scored from a Bobby Pearce single to the left in third.

DeLucia ran his tournament strikeout for a total of 31 in 19 1/3 innings and is a leader of the staff that has been at his best in June.

In six games, the Rebels have an ERA of 1.83 and average 13.7 strikeouts per nine innings, giving less than 5.3 hits per game and about six batters for each one.
