Port-au-Prince, March 28 (RHC) have announced that the social organizations and political personalities of the Haitian State will lose control of the territory and demand to declare a state of emergency in the areas currently controlled by the groups.
Among the signatories are the December 4 Collective of Sant Karl Lévèque, the Haitian Council of Non-State Actors, and the Collective of Lawyers for the Defense of Human Rights, who warned of what they called “surprising growth in terrorist groups”. the “horrendous cruelty” of members of armed groups.
Lawyer Arnel Rémy, general coordinator of the Collective Lawyers for the Defense of Human Rights (Caddho), states that more than 530 people have been killed by gangs since January in Haiti.
According to the UN, violence has been increasing since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, in July 2021, and the political and security climate in the country has not improved.
According to Remy, when part of the signatory “the State loses control of the Haitian territory, there are areas through which it is not possible, almost all areas are controlled by armed robberies and frequent cases of kidnapping”.
He points out the “indifference of the Haitian public” in the fight against the suspects in the country, and deplores the “indolence of the media” in dealing with armed groups: “The bandits have more weapons than our police.”
On its part, the Collective on December 4, 2013 calls for the exceptional creation of a Crisis Staff, whose main mission will be to provide concrete solutions to the problem of crime.
