Depression cases on the rise: Health

According to records from the Federal Ministry of Health (SSA), there was an increase in diagnoses of depression during this year in Hidalgo.

Cut to Epidemiological Week 49, there was a 22.14 per cent increase in cases of the disease compared to the same period in 2021.

According to data released in the Epidemiological Surveillance Bulletin of the Federal Ministry of Health, 2,620 people have been diagnosed with this mental illness so far this year.

By comparison, last year there were 2,145 citizens suffering from the disease.

Of the total cases for 2022, the majority is concentrated in females, as 80.72 percent, which equates to 2,115, were females, while the rest were males.

According to national figures, 125,506 people have been diagnosed with depression this year, representing an increase compared to 2021, when there were 98,168 cases.

In the country, females accounted for 74.19 of the total diagnoses, while males accounted for 25.81 per cent.

The Pan American Health Organization classifies depression as a common illness, but serious because it interferes with daily life.

Among the effects, it has been reported to have an effect on the ability to perform activities and is due to a combination of genetic, biological, environmental and psychological factors; It is characterized by presenting symptoms such as persistent sadness and loss of energy, changes in appetite, need for sleep, anxiety, etc.
