MIAMI.- The governor of Florida, rum DeSantis, created a new controversy by discouraging the use of Covid-19 vaccines updated for people under 65 years old, contrary to recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In a panel discussing the COVID-19 vaccine that featured doctors expressing doubts about its effectiveness, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo echoed DeSantis’ concerns.
Ladapo expressed concerns about the safety of the vaccine, stating that there is no clinical trial data to support its use.
The official said that “we continue to live in a world where the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) make decisions that are incomprehensible in terms of data and logic, even when it comes to COVID.”
In addition, he argued that, due to the supposed existing immunity of the population, the vaccine is not a good decision for young people and those who are at low risk in this post-pandemic period.
According to Ladapo, people over 65 years old should discuss vaccination with their healthcare providers.
On the other hand, the CDC supports updated COVID-19 vaccines for everyone 6 months and older, although there is debate about the level of benefit for younger, healthier people.
Ladapo, who was appointed by DeSantis in 2021, has expressed opposition to federal health policies and has previously questioned the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 shots. In March, he received a warning from the CDC and FDA for “promoting doubt” about vaccines.
To date, hundreds of millions of doses of the vaccine have been given with few adverse effects, and the CDC says post-vaccination monitoring is the strictest in US history.
