Development of advanced operating rooms with state-of-the-art technology for personalized surgery, one of the goals of health innovation.

The development of new medical devices that allow the configuration of hybrid rooms, that is, surgical spaces equipped for high-resolution radiodiagnostic imaging, virtual reality, 3D printing, and other technologies that enable R&D&I solutions is one of the solutions proposed by the Strategic Specialty Innovation Committee (CEIE) in Health confronts the main challenges in this area of knowledge. The objective, in this case, is to carry out proper surgery, which therefore favors the rapid recovery of the patient.

In this second session, the group of specialists that advises the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI) proposed twelve innovation objectives to address the main challenges of the health system and also to strengthen the consolidation of the specialized production of the health device.

The effective implementation of personalized medicine is one of the goals of the commission, which is committed to exploring the development of digital twins based on clinical data to reproduce the functioning of human organs and optimize the detection of pathologies, as well as the design of new ones. diagnostic methodology based on biomarkers.

In this same line, progress is encouraged in the prototype of miniaturized cellular tissues that are designed in the laboratory to emulate organs to test the response to advanced therapies, a test plan capable of certifying the reliability, efficiency and biosafety of drug innovations or development. tools that allow the implementation of monitoring, control, production and industrial scale processing of these drugs.

To prevent, identify and control mental problems and chronic diseases, the physicist Maria Jesús Vicent, from the Príncipe Felipe Research Center (CIPF), advocates for the development and integration of artificial intelligence and big data tools have organized. various information systems to undertake predictive analysis.

In the same way, the Council holds its concern about hospital infections and solutions with the real detection and identification of pathogenic aerosols in health environments, the development of more efficient air purification systems and the design of new tools and strategies. health equipment to increase the health of doctors.

Maria Jesús Vicent, for her part, took up the challenge of promoting the proposed projects within a maximum period of three years, at the same time that she promoted new opportunities to work in frontline medicine. “In the Valencian community there are bases for the creation of a business unit capable of providing high-value services in the process of development and use of advanced therapies and medicines.”

From companies to end users

The multidisciplinary team is made up of representatives of the scientific community, technological organizations and the business community, as well as health professionals who will be the end users of these innovations.

The project therefore has the participation from the scientific sphere Cristina Botella (Universität Jaume I), Salvador Martínez, (Institute of Neurosciences), Josep Redón (Incliva Health Research Institute) and Damià Tormo (Columella Foundation). Javier Sánchez, from the Institute of Biomechanics of Valencia (IBV) as part of the technology center.

The manufacturer is represented by Mara Gracia (Surgival), Francisco Sánchís (Elix Pharma) and José Manuel Santabárbara (Ascires Group), as well as José María Lagarón (Bionicia), who is one of the new members of the team. The second innovation falls on Esther Soler (Elche General Hospital), who joins Maria Isabella Acién (San Juan de Alicante Hospital), to provide the vision and needs of health professionals.

It is expected that in the next few weeks, this working group will give its final conclusions, which will be available to all agents involved in the Valencian Innovation System after being validated by the Strategic Innovation Committee (CEI).

The agency, for its part, begins to prioritize from 2024 those R&D&i projects that involve the development and implementation of these projects within the scope of its call to help in competitive competitions.
