The economist Diana Mondino, who will be the chancellor of the government of Javier Milei, met this Monday in Buenos Aires with the Uruguayan ambassador to Argentina, Carlos Enciso, where they held an informal and “open agenda” meeting.
In a conversation with Telenoche (Channel 4), Mondino said he spoke with the Uruguayan Foreign Minister, Omar Paganini, who toured China with President Luis Lacalle Pou.
“The relations between the two brotherly countries must always be extraordinary. I had the opportunity to speak, I would say during the evening, with the chancellor (Omar Paganini), and President Lacalle with Javier Milei. They are in China for now is that “The time difference is quite complicated. But we talked… We don’t just tell the time because they will think we are dancing,” said the woman who will be in charge of Argentina’s foreign policy for the next four years.
Mondino said that with Enciso he discussed “all the options” that the two countries need to “significantly improve the activities” they have united. “People think about commerce. But we have the possibility of culture and education complementarity with many other elements,” he stated.
“The macroeconomic conditions in Argentina are quite dire and are affecting the economy of Uruguay in various ways,” he said.
Asked about a possible trip by Milei to Uruguay before taking office (on December 10), the future chancellor said he sees it as difficult. The President of the Republic spoke to Milei earlier this Monday to congratulate him on his victory and invited him to meet in Uruguay.
“We have a lot of work to organize the government’s plans that I don’t dare to say it, but I think it will not be easy,” Mondino answered about the visit to Uruguay before December 10.
For his part, Ambassador Enciso said that after greeting President Lacalle Pou, the meeting was organized at the diplomatic residence. “An introduction, a kind of informal conversation, at two levels: Uruguay and also the group of Latin American ambassadors that we are coordinating for a joint meeting these days. Informal open agenda meeting. Then our foreign ministries have the necessary level of work, “he pointed out.
