The Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card program will be officially launched on 25 January. After this, voters (Voters) will be allowed to download a soft copy of their voter card from the Election Commission website. Other identity proofs like Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Driving License are already in digital format. This will be the first time that the government will issue a voter ID card in digital format. 25 January is National Voters’ Day. This program will be launched on this day.
The Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card is being launched before the assembly elections in five states. Assembly elections are due in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Now the question is whether all registered voters can get digital identity card. And a digital identity card will allow voting at polling booths.
New voters will get digital certificate in the first phase
In the first phase, only new voters will get a digital certificate from January 25 to 31. Those who have applied for voter card and registered their mobile numbers with the Election Commission will be able to download their digital voter-ID.
All the voters whose phone numbers are associated with the Election Commission will be able to download digital copies of their identity cards from February 1. Voters whose phone numbers are not registered with the Election Commission will have to verify their information with the Election Commission. To avail the download facility, you have to link your mobile number.
All the identity cards will be in PDF format
All digital voter ID cards will be in PDF format. New voters will also get a hard copy of their voter ID card. Digitization is to ensure that there is no delay in obtaining voter ID card before the election. Apart from this, digital cards will help in the event of loss like card, migration. Digital voter ID cards can be stored on DigiLocker.
The digital card will have a secure QR code with demographics, so that they cannot be duplicated. For this, log on to https://voterportal.eci.gov.in/, or https://nvsp.in/Account/Login.
If you do not have an account, you will have to create an account through mobile number and email ID. And if you already have an account, e-EPIC can be downloaded by login.
