Interviewed by Mesa Central, on Channel 13, the General Director of the Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez, assured this morning that “I completely agree that Chile is the safest country in the region”, while evaluating that, in that that sense, made by the Prosecutor. National, Angel Valencia, who last week said that “in terms of numbers, Chile continues to be the safest country in Latin America.”
As Yáñez explains, “The latest homicide report shows that Chile is in last place. There are three countries without numbers or records, namely Argentina, Peru and Bolivia, which do not report their homicide records.”
Also, he showed that “there is 4.6% murder for every one hundred thousand inhabitants. It does not satisfy us, every time someone dies it is something very serious, but it shows that if we compare ourselves with other neighborhoods – and not with the countries beyond the Atlantic -, our concern should be with our neighbors to. together face the problems that attack us.”
In the same sense, he admits that “these are events that we are not used to seeing, which are due to the particular realities of other countries, where this type of events may be common, that somehow cross the border and gone. away.” installing countries. These are modalities that are exported due to immigration “And in that I do not want to stigmatize the entire foreign population, on the contrary, they are more victims than perpetrators, but an important group comes to commit crimes, taking advantage of the fact that there are people who come in search of a better quality of life,” he added.
Along these lines, he continued that “these modalities from other countries are common. What we have to do is prevent them from being installed and for that we have the capabilities, the Carabineros and PDI are very professional. In 48 hours we cleared two kidnappings that happened in one week, which speaks of professional capacity. It is obvious that we need to continue perfecting our people and training to get better results.”
In this way, he explained that last week Carabineros made 2,700 arrests throughout the country, highlighting the case of one of those arrested, who had more than 90 arrests before.
