About the production:
Over the years, Disney has enjoyed great success in adapting its great theme park attractions for the big screen, such as Pirates of the Caribbean or the recent success at the box office Jungle Cruise, films seen in the four corners of the planet.
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, the production team behind Aladdin, Disney’s live-action smash hit, had a very clear vision for adapting it to the big screen. Enchanted Mansion, one of the most popular attractions in Disney’s theme parks. They believe it is important to offer the fans of the attraction a version of the film that is true to the spirit of the attraction, respecting humor, excitement and, of course, many ghosts, but placed within the framework of a modern story that inhabited by characters adapted to diversity.
Stand up and say: “This has been my favorite attraction since I was a child. The genius of attraction is its tone. Scary, funny, stylish, unconventional and nostalgic, and we wanted the tone of the film to have all those characteristics as well.
The script
To write the script, the producers hired Katie Dippold, known for her comedy film projects with director Paul Feig as special bodies, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, Ghostbusters with McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, as well as the hit television series Parks and Recreation.
Dippold began by immersing himself in the source material, with frequent visits to Disneyland to experience the attraction and a trip to New Orleans, where he locked himself in a supposedly haunted hotel room. to work on the script. This is how a script came out that captures all the fun and fear of attraction fans but adds huge doses of emotion to the material.
Get up quickly: “Katie is a huge fan of the attraction and totally understands it. “She gets the fun, the humor and the scares and transfers it to the script.”
He created a mysterious and comic adventure in which a Haunted Mansion located outside of New Orleans is the central character of the story. Around him, a group of living human characters try to take back control from the house’s ghostly inhabitants. And it turns out that all the characters experience some kind of problematic situation that prevents them from continuing their lives.
Characters
We have Gabbie, a widowed doctor from New York with a 9-year-old son, Travis, who has trouble making friends. They both hope to start a new life in New Orleans, where Gabbie’s mother lives. They moved into a pre-war style house that was very affordable. It is located in the swamp, outside the city. But they find that this place is more than they expected: The Mansion has a strange mix of spirits, some funny and some “dead.”
They are desperate, so they seek the help of a priest, Father Kent, who specializes in exorcism, who turns to several “experts” to rid the mansion known as Gracey Manor of unwanted guests: Ben, a former astrophysicist who lost his wife and who is dedicated to organizing “ghost tours” walking through the city; Harriet, a French Quarter medium who reads Bar Mitzvahs; and Bruce Davis, a Tulane University professor who is an expert on the haunted history of New Orleans.
Each of them come to this house for different reasons, not knowing that anyone who enters will not be able to leave without one of their ghosts joining them forever. When they learned the gravity of the situation the hard way, they understood that they had to find a way to work as a team to free themselves and the Manor from the hands of the spirits. Along the way, they discover not only the twisted history of the Mansion, but each of them must bravely face their fears and their own inner demons to overcome their common predicament and banish the ghosts from the home and their lives always.

Bad Hair and his film and television series “Dear White People.” He also has his own personal history with the theme park’s Haunted Mansion attraction.

He did a horror film, ‘Bad Hair’, he did comedy and satire in ‘Dear White People’, he grew up loving the Haunted Mansion attraction . In fact, he worked at Disneyland when he was in film school and spent every break at the attraction. Most of his family is from Louisiana and the New Orleans area so he knows a lot of history in that area as well. place in the United States. He gave us the impression that he understood everything that made this attraction so special. “He immediately knew how to capture the tone of the script and create a visual spectacle that would do justice to the attraction.”
True to Disney attraction
““I’m a real fan. “said Simien with great enthusiasm. “I wanted to be completely faithful to the attraction because it has so many great stories and is an endless source of inspiration. Adapting an icon as famous as the Mansion for film is a great opportunity to continue that legacy.
The director explained it: “When you experience the attraction from all angles, you quickly realize that the moments that change your memory are nothing more than small details with large black spaces around them. Know- I immediately wanted to continue the details that die-hard fans remember while expanding the universe so that when you get closer, what you see has meaning and makes a big impression. But all the time we want to pay tribute and stay true to the original material while telling a unique story.”
Simien said: “Katie Dippold’s wonderful script takes us outside the history of the Mansion itself. She creates characters that have their own story and perfectly fit what I think is the attraction of the Mansion. They are like us when we visit we at the attraction for the first time. “Your experience at our ‘Haunted Mansion’ mirrors what everyone experiences when sitting in the Doom Buggy at an attraction.”
