Do you never run out of balance? Extends validity of telephone recharge

But this situation has changed. Data from the Federal Institute of Telecommunications shows that recharges of 20, 30, 100, 150 and 500 pesos increased by one recharge day in 2022, now lasting three, four, 19, 28 and 34 days respectively, Which means an increase of 3%. While for payments of 300 pesos, its temporality decreased by one day from 35 to 34 days.

Rolando Almilla, market research manager at The CU Consultancy, explains that the difference in the validity of recharge over the past six years is due to the fact that starting in 2016, the mobile market sought to receive a unitary fee for a basket of telephony services. ,

That year, virtual mobile operators began to resonate in the mobile market through their more affordable rates. However, uniting the remaining rates has been difficult.

For the analyst, some operators have found a possibility of reduction in balance validity that users may increase their mobile rates so that their data lasts longer.

“By measuring dominance in terms of lines rather than revenue, we have seen an effect in which Telcel wants to get rid of its low-consumption users. In this way it competes with postpaid. However, in prepaid, it offers less than its competitors”, the analyst points out.

OMV extends recharge validity

MVNOs are the companies which maintain more validity in their recharge. For example, Oxo Sale, from the convenience store company, gives users seven days of validity for a recharge of 20 pesos; While Telcel, for that amount, lasts only one day. According to IFT data, Telefónica offers two days and AT&T has no offer for this amount.

While in recharge of 50 pesos, operators like Telcel, Movistar and OMV maintain a validity of seven days, but the difference lies in the fact that the latter offer more megabytes.

This is one of the reasons why in the last two years, virtual mobile operators have gained a greater share of the mobile market with a share of 6.6%.

As of the third quarter of last year, 137.3 million mobile lines were registered, of which 82.9% corresponded to the prepaid segment.
