Doctors Without Borders donated 18 tons of medicine and medical supplies in Venezuela

The humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) donated 18 tons of medicines and medical supplies in Venezuela between January and June of this year, according to the group’s half-yearly balance sheet published on Monday, in which it reports, among other things, the 32 tons of public health structures, who supported in different ways.

Through four projects involving 481 MSF staff in the country, the NGO conducted or supported 137,353 medical consultations, including 100 on nutritional care and 799 on mental health.

They also treated 21 victims of sexual violence and 622 women giving birth, and also conducted 1,756 malaria tests, diagnosing and treating 272 cases.

MSF projects are carried out in the southern states of Amazonas and Bolívar, on the border with Brazil, as well as in Anzoátegui (northeast) and Delta Amacuro, areas where thousands of indigenous people live.

In 2022, the NGO imported 263.89 tons of medical and logistical materials from Venezuela, marking an expansion of coverage in the country compared to 2021, when it imported 83 tons.

According to the United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha, in English), a total of 1.5 million Venezuelans received humanitarian assistance in the first seven months of the year.
