Dodgers Max Schaezer named NL Player of the Week

LOS ANGELES – Max Schaezer has a pretty straightforward way of pitching in the run for the playoffs.

“Look – every time I have to win. There’s no secret in that,” he said. “We’re in a huge race, especially a split race with the Giants. I mean, you want to win. You want to win the division. You don’t want to go on a wild card. But if you do, I have also been a part of a team that has gone through the wild card game and found a way to win the World Series.”

If his job is to win “every time out,” Scherzer has performed perfectly as Dodger. The Dodgers have won each of their eight appearances for him and Scherzer was named National League Player of the Week for the past week when he made 16 scoreless innings in two starts with only 22 strikeouts and no walks. Was. He also played an unblemished innings of his third career, taking a perfect eighth inning on Sunday against the San Diego Padres and reaching 3,000 career strikeouts.

In his eight starts with the Dodgers, Scherzer has 0.88 ERA, 0.67 WHIP, 72 strikeouts and only 29 hits allowed in 51 innings. If he’s getting “in the zone,” Scherzer isn’t ready to pronounce it for himself.

“Yes and no – because as much as you can sit there and say when you’re getting results and hitting balls at people that you’re on some sort of roll and the results are going your way, then I’m going to pitch It’s long enough to know that they can snap in one go and you can’t get results,” he said on Monday. “You must be doing the exact same thing and all of a sudden, the league senses you and then they beat you.

“That’s where, for me, I really try not to get bogged down in the required outcome. I’m more focused on the process, what my mechanics are, how I’m delivering the ball, how I get people.” How am I indexing and just to see what kind of swing people are doing in certain situations. I always try to criticize myself and find a way to be better every time, whether the results are good or bad ”
