Donations, hymns and calls for change: Celebrities respond to the end of Roe

Musicians, athletes and other celebrities use their platforms to respond to the U.S. Supreme Court’s overthrow of Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood Friday.

The Conservative-heavy court’s decision has already caused an abortion ban in a number of states and led to protests across the country.

Singer Lizzo, in the wake of the decision, announced $ 500,000 pledged for Planned Parenthood and abortion rights organization of her upcoming tour, which begins in September.

“Black women [and] “Colored women have historically had excessively less access to family planning resources – it’s a big loss, but not a new one,” Lizzo said on her Instagram account.

Concert promoter Live Nation has pledged the same $ 500,000 to abortion rights organizations and has also agreed to cover travel expenses for employees seeking abortions from their state, the company announced on Instagram.

British singer Harry Styles wrote in a social media post that he feels “absolutely devastated” for Americans and encouraged his fans to go in with loved ones.

Stars also made their voices heard on social media in the wake of the decision.

Singer Phoebe Bridgers asked her fans during a set at England’s Glastonbury Festival on Friday to “fuck the Supreme Court” on three. “

“All these irrelevant old fuckers trying to tell us what to do with our fucking bodies,” Bridgers said of the Supreme Court justices.

Bridgers was an outspoken advocate for abortion rights and released a cover of a Bo Burnham song in 2021 to help a number of Texas abortion funds, Entertainment Weekly reported.

She is previously revealed she had an abortion and sought the help of Planned Parenthood.

Apart from musicians, star athletes also weighed in on the decision.

LeBron James shared a tweet suggesting that universal health care and efforts to lower black maternal mortality rates in the South would be a focal point for anti-abortion advocates if they care about “babies'” lives.

The decision on Friday is “ABSOLUTELY OVER POWER & CONTROL !!” James tweeted.
