Donations to Canada to help those affected by the Cuban fire

Canada DonativosOttawa, Aug 18 – Residents of Montreal in Canada and friends from the Solidarity Movement have today created a donation with medicines and medical supplies to help those affected by the worst fires in Cuban history.

As reported by the Havana Embassy in this capital, the shipment is made up of 512 kg of drugs and is accompanied by continued support and concern about the development of events on the island.

In addition, diplomatic representation expressed thanks to the prompt response of Cubans living abroad and the solidarity of the people in their time of need.

On 5 August, a lightning discharge occurred in one of Cuba’s crude oil reserves at the Matanzas supertanker base, causing a massive fire and an unprecedented industrial accident.

Teams from the Ministry of the Interior, the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the CubaPetrolo Company and the Institute of Hydraulic Resources worked with Mexican and Venezuelan experts to extinguish the fire, which was extinguished last Friday.

A day earlier, forensic expert Jorge Gonzalez reported that it was impossible to identify the remains of 14 people missing in the incident, due to the level of calcination in the body after exposure to temperatures above a thousand degrees Celsius.

Following the tragedy, governments, institutions, solidarity groups with Cuba, and supporters of the revolution began to collect donations for the island region.

According to the governor of Matanzas, Mario Sabines, nine donations have already arrived in the province from different parts of the world and others are in the process of being processed, mainly medicines. (pl)
