The group DS Penske of Formula E announces the Jean-Éric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne as the starting drivers for the second consecutive season. This year, in the tenth in the electric single-seater category, the team’s goal is none other than back to the fight for victories after the transition period of 2023, having achieved only one victory.
DS Penske has a dream line, formed by two Formula E champions such as Vergne – winner in 2018 and 2019 – and Vandoorne, winner in 2022. Despite this, the team is coming from a difficult period in terms of results, after the start of the cooperation between Penske Motorsport and DS Automobiles, and the premiere of the details of Gen3.
Last season, the team could only be fifth in the world ranking, achieving one victory (at the E-Prix in Hyderabad, India) and two podiums, all of them with Vergne’s stamp. This year, as team members explained in a media conference, the goal is back in the fight for the title.
“I’m very happy to be with this team again. Everything took a while to work, but we had a season of experience and The goal is to learn from what we do right and wrong. to fight for the title, which is what we want,” explained Vandoorne.
His partner, Vergne, added that: “The integration of DS with Penske was easy from the first race and all departments worked well from day one. The performance is not at the level we want, but we are trying to improve. This year the rules are the same and the car hasn’t changed, but there is a lot, at the software level, where we can improve.
“In hardware we can’t touch anything, but in software we can make updates and improvements. Our only goal is to gain performance. Two or three details can have a big impact on the result, because as we saw last year, the grid is very tight. You can improve the technical side and also the driver section,” said the Belgian.
The 2024 season of Formula E starts in Mexico City E-Prix, which will take place on January 13. This is the first of 17 races that will be held this year. Before that, between October 23 and 27, preseason tests will be held at the Cheste Circuit (Valencia).
