Ducey signs bills limiting school masks, vaccination rules

PHOENIX ( Associated Press) – Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey signed legislation Monday that prohibits government agencies from requiring COVID-19 vaccinations and schools from mandating masks for students under 18. Withholds unless their parents approve.

The bills approved by the Republican governor are only the latest measure backed by GOP members of the Legislature in what they believe is overly aggressive government action during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ducey also signed bills mandating that religious services be necessary even in emergencies, which allows clergy to visit the hospital If anyone is allowed to meet or if a person is near death. The Duchy never limited religious services during the initial pandemic shutdown. Many hospitals banned all visits to coronavirus patients.

The school mask ban replaces one that was included in last year’s state budget but was overruled by courts. The state’s Supreme Court agreed with lower courts that the Republican-controlled Legislature violated the state’s constitution by including several policy provisions related to budget spending plans.

It forbids school districts or any other government entity By forcing minors to wear face masks, unless their parent or guardian gives their express permission.

The second bill prohibits the state or any local government By requiring employees or anyone else to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. The bill reflects an executive order issued by DUC last year.

The Federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention says wearing a mask At times of high community transmission of COVID-19 greatly limits its spread. But opponents say parents should have a say in whether their children should wear masks.

The introduction of vaccination against COVID-19 is credited with limiting deaths and serious injuries, but opponents of the mandate say personal preference should outweigh government vaccination mandates.

Ducey recommended wearing masks and vaccinations but opposed government orders.

The mask and vaccination bill was opposed by all Democrats in the Legislature. Religious services measures garnered widespread bipartisan support, while the hospital travel bill sparked a flurry of Democratic support.
