A series of earthquakes and tremors in Chile has worried the country’s authorities. Every data, even in intensity and location, is monitored by the National Seismological Center (CSN) of the University of Chile.
This September 13, this is the updated report provided by Seismology for the national territory:
The earthquake of magnitude 3.2, 29 kilometers southeast of Rancagua.
The earthquake of magnitude 2.8, 119 kilometers west of Canela Baja.
3.0 magnitude earthquake, 38 kilometers southwest of Caldera.
3.4 magnitude earthquake, 122 kilometers southeast of Socaire.
The earthquake of magnitude 2.7, 20 kilometers northwest of Punitaqui.
The earthquake of magnitude 2.5, 33 kilometers southeast of Pica.
The earthquake of magnitude 3.1, 21 kilometers south of La Serena.
Earthquakes in Chile
The country is distributed within a seismic zone, so it is normal to see tremors on several occasions during the day, although with different magnitudes. Mineduc explains that this phenomenon occurred because “Chile is located on the western edge of the South American plate, where the Nazca and Antarctic plates converge and produce subduction zones. On the other hand, the Scotia plate slides which is horizontal with respect to the South American plate, in a transcurrent plate boundary.
To find out, immediately, information on the latest earthquake movements, follow the official report of the National Seismological Center (CSN) of the University of Chile, where you will know the epicenter, latitude, depth and many characteristics.
Google alert earthquake and earthquake
Google has created an alert system that notifies mobile devices with the Android operating system seconds before they start shaking. It contains a free alarm and message, with two versions. When the telluric movements exceed 5.0 magnitude, an alarm is sent to people, and a graphic alert on the screen, accompanied by a loud sound, which cannot be disconnected, and is intended for those people to protect themselves.
