Ecuador expects the US to provide USD 2.3 billion

Ecuador and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding to deal with drug trafficking. The US Congress must decide on the funds every year, until 2030.

In July 2023, after almost a year of negotiations, Ecuador and the United States signed a cooperation agreement on FACE al drug smuggling.

Minister Lara clarified that the signing of this Memorandum This does not mean that the United States will give money to Ecuador for the fight against drug trafficking, but that cooperation takes place in four lines:

  • Capacity building
  • Training and qualification
  • Delivery of equipment and materials
