The last part of Investigation Team had the Daniel Sancho case as the main topic. The show, presented by Gloria Serra, traveled to Thailand to learn more about the keys to the murder of surgeon Edwin Arrieta, and its reporters were able to access some images from local cameras and relevant documentation of the investigation.
Thanks to videos recorded on the street, the program was able to show Daniel Sancho renting a motorcycle from a local company. A fairly common gesture among tourists, which ended up being crucial to the investigation since he had to leave a copy of his passport at the establishment. He also travels on Koh Phangan for several days on board the motorcycle.
When Sancho got the motorcycle on July 30, the first thing he did was set off for a hotel complex 17 kilometers away. There, days later, he ended the life of Edwin Arrieta, who happened to be the one who had rented the room where the Spaniard slept that night. The surgeon had not yet arrived on the island.
According to the receipt, Arrieta booked three nights between July 30 and August 3 to spend a few days with Sancho. According to the program, the cost of the room in the complex was 700 euros. In addition, the Colombian doctor authorized Daniel Sancho to check in and out of the property.
The “Enthusiasm” of Edwin Arrieta
Before his murder, one of Arrieta’s plans was to create a wine that would pay tribute to his profession. For this purpose he had enlisted the help of two winemakers whom he had met after an operation and to whom he could confidently reveal that “there was a person in Spain whom he met.”
He didn’t reveal anything about the person’s identity other than his age. “He told us that he was 29 years old and therefore traveled a lot to Spain,” they remember. Coincidentally, that is exactly the same age as Daniel Sancho is today. “He seemed happy and enthusiastic,” they said, after discovering that Arrieta had confessed to them that he was preparing a trip to Thailand.
