Egyptian sentenced to three years in prison

CAIRO – An Egyptian court has sentenced a woman convicted of human trafficking to three years in prison for videotaping a video on Tiktok.

Social media influence Hanin Hossam was arrested in 2020. Her case has been criticized by critics as part of a crackdown on conservative Egyptian government officials.

Prosecutors allege trafficking of young girls for material gain It is unclear how the videos relate to human trafficking.

Hossam, who is in her early 20s, was sentenced to 10 years in prison but was reduced to three years by a Cairo criminal court on Monday. She was fined 200,000 Egyptian pounds ($ 10,800).

Monday’s verdict is final and cannot be appealed.

The lawsuit alleges that Hosamah invited girls to join other social media platform likes, saying they could make more money from their videos.

Hossam and other women, including Tik Tok influence activist Mawda Eladham, were first sentenced to two years in prison in July 2020 for “violating the values and principles of the Egyptian family” and inciting prostitution and human trafficking.

The appellate court overturned the sentence and both women were released.

Prosecutors, however, appealed the decision and charged them with human trafficking. Cairo was sentenced by a Cairo court to 10 years in prison in June, and Elad was sentenced to six years in prison.

Hossam appealed the verdict, and she was re-assigned to another judge on Monday, which reduced her sentence to three years.

Hossam and Eladham have been at the forefront of Tick Talk in recent years, gaining millions of followers and attracting Egyptian club-pop tracks with their video clips.

In their own 15-second clip, the women wear makeup, park in the car, dance in the kitchen, and skate – the usual and seemingly subtle content.
