El Salvador: Siege against gangs increased, 43 arrested

SAN SALVADOR, December 25 (Prensa Latina) Authorities in El Salvador are expanding the fencing of areas to eliminate three gangs, an official source said today.

In addition to encircling the “industrial town” of Soypango, according to a government statement, members of the armed forces and the National Civil Police expanded the offensive to the communities of Tutunichapa and La Granjita during the early hours of Saturday morning and afternoon. Report good.

Around a thousand uniformed officers attended Tutunichapa, at least 130 police officers and 11 canine technical teams supported the investigation to combat drug trafficking.

“Having surrounded Tutunichapa, a well-known drug distribution center, we knew that many drug traffickers would go to another well-known distribution center, the La Granjita community, to supply themselves. “What they didn’t expect is that once they were inside, we would surround La Granjita,” President Nayib Bukele wrote in a message on social networks.

He insisted that there was not a single death in the confrontation during both operations and that several gang members were arrested, including a leader who worked for 40 years in Tutunichapa.

According to official information at this place 43 people accused of drug trafficking were arrested, seized more than 10 thousand dollars, a firearm and drugs.

The operation was commanded by Defense Minister René Marino and occasionally supervised by other senior government officials.

Marino said in a statement to a local television station that this type of operation had never before been carried out against a sector where gang members were.

“We will bring relief to the population and we are attacking the gangs from all angles,” he said.

The President’s security policy has given results and we are about to end a year with a safety record.

We will continue to work for the rest of the year so that people can enjoy the festivities, extortion is over and we will be here to fight it,” Vice Admiral Marino commented.

These barricades, which are still active, are part of the V phase of the territorial control plan, supported by the state of emergency imposed since March 27 this year, which according to official figures allowed the arrest of more than 60,500 gang members. ,
