The Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Álvaro Elizalde, referred to the opposition’s criticism of the “Better Pensions Tour for Chile” the government.
These days the Minister of Labor Jeannette Jara are found in northern cities to promote the pension reform proposed by La Moneda.
Similar events also took place in the south of the country, where Minister Mario Marcel was also present to announce the fiscal pact.
Some parliamentarians from Chile Vamos questioned this tour. For example, MP Frank Sauerbaum, chairman of the RN parliamentary group, assured that the government does not have the authority to carry out such campaigns.
“It seems inappropriate to me that the minister is traveling around the country to publicize a pension project that has not yet been approved. “This is prohibited by law and we have sent a request to the Comptroller’s Office.” he showed.
Minister Elizalde and the pension reform
After questioning, Álvaro Elizalde stated: “It is essential that in Chile there is an opportunity for people to be informed about the democratic debate surrounding such important initiatives as pension reform.”
“Pension reform cannot be postponed any further. (…) In this context, the government has made a proposal and welcomes dialogue and democratic debate directly with citizens.” he added.
Finally, the Segpres boss referred to the discussions between the executive and parliamentarians about the requirements for pension reform.
One of the points that has not yet been clarified is the determination of the additional contribution of 6% proposed by the government. From La Moneda they play 4:2 (for reasons of solidarity or individual accounts), which does not convince the opposition.
“We have spoken to various players and the technical teams are also working. We believe that it should be a constructive dialogue and therefore requires mutual listening.” Elizalde closed.
