Emma Watson has said she was “shocked” by Rupert Grint’s comments Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special.
During the special, Watson and Grint both admitted to considering leaving the series due to their struggles with fame.
In one particularly moving moment, Grint thoroughly explains to her how the movies mean they will always be intertwined.
“We are family, we always will be,” Grint told him. “It’s a strong bond, we’ll always be a part of each other’s lives.” After embracing, Grint said to Watson, “I love you.” After a beat, they added “as friends”, which made them both laugh.
Reflecting on the moment, Watson pointed out the trend In a new interview: “When Rupert says things, he really means it. I was taken aback that he was deciding to be so sensitive and kind in public.”
She also said that it was the “most emotional” part of making the reunion special which aired on HBO Max in the US and Sky in the UK.
Watson’s comments seem to contradict a swirling theory about Grint’s appearance at the reunion.
Speaking about his struggles with fame during the reunion, Watson said: “It was time to order of the Phoenix That’s when things started getting spicy for all of us.”
Grint then said: “I had the same feelings as Emma, wondering what life would be like if I called it a day. We never really talked about it. I guess we just went through it at our own pace.” We were going through, we were like at the time. It didn’t really occur to us that we all probably had the same feelings.”

elsewhere in chat with him the trend, Watson was asked how often the trio, who played Harry, Ron, and Hermione, spoke for a decade.
“They both hate WhatsApp and their phones in general,” she revealed. “In fact, as a trio, we really try to stay away from electronics so there isn’t an overwhelming amount of back and forth help. We’re not on group chats, but we speak in person.”
Watson also revealed that Grint sends him pictures of his young daughter and that the three of them “try and stay out of the limelight”. He also spoke to co-star Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, “most of the week”.
